One Day Camp Session
To develop Ball Mastery through quick repetition.
In a 15 x 15 yard area. Groups of 3/4 players with a ball each.
The first player of A & C group with a ball.
V1: Players run across the area alternately doing “Messi Taps’ (Relay Race, first team to finish wins).
V2: Same Action but Coach designates one Game Move (Player repeats 3,4,5, of that Feint Move as they go across).
Game Moves to use: Drag Push & Scissors.
Eyes up occasionally.
To improve Running with the ball Speed & Decision Making Speed.
Two teams with a ball to each player lined up 10 yds. apart and approx. 14 yds. from two small goals 10-12 yds. apart on the end line with a 5 yd shooting line marked by cones in front of them.
V1: Red A1 attacks the goal nearest his team as Yellow Y1 presses him. As soon as A1 shoots Yellow Y 2 attacks either of the two goals and A1 immediately must defend against Y2.
Players must get inside the 5yd shooting line to score. Make teams change sides so that players get used to challenges from either side.
If you can get to the shooting zone with speed alone, use it. When confronted by the recovering defender use all your Moves especially your Feints to beat them and shoot.
To Improve Decision Making.
A 10x10yd square with up to 5 players at each corner. 7 Balls are placed in the middle.
V1: First player of each group starts sprint into middle picks up the ball and takes back to their corner, they then go back into the middle and take another ball until all the balls in the middle are gone. Once that happens then player can “steal” a ball. From opponents corner. First player with 3 balls in their corner wins the game. Then next players go. No protecting the ball in the corner, no tackling and that ball must be placed still in the corner, not thrown so it rolls.
V2: Same but use feet not hands
Good Decision making requires that you keep your eyes up to see where your best options just like in a match.
To Improve 1 v 1 Attack & Defence.
A 20x20yd grid marked with corner cones and two teams lined up at opposite mid points facing opposite directions.
V1: No Ball. The Coach nominates which team will defend and which attacks. On the Coach’s call the first player from each team sprints around their respective corner cone and enter the field. The “Attacker” tries to get over the opposite end line without being tagged by the “Defender.” If there is a tag the play ends and the Coach immediately calls the next players to start. The Coach keeps the cumulative score of all games.
V2: Add Ball. The Coach passes to defender who passes to attacker and then tries to win the ball and carry it over the opposite line.
Attacking: If speed alone can do it then you don’t need the Moves. If you need to us try the Feint Moves.
Defending: Don’t rush in.
Players each with a ball. 16 yards from goal. 3 cones as a slalom. A “No Goal Zone of 2 yards, that neither GK or Attacker can go in.
The Attacker dribbles around the cones and before he/she reaches the “No Go Zone” has to shoot at goal.
The Coach times the player. If the player scores in the big goal one second deducted from the time. If Player scores inside mini goals then 3 seconds is deducted from the total time.
Each player should have between 4 and 6 attempts dependent on the time you have.
The GK is the coach.
A 40×30yd field.
Players play 5 v 5. One player plays GK and defends both Goals.
Players can shoot from anywhere.
Teams play 6 minute games then new teams. Unlimited Substitutions allowed.
Change GK’s often.
Just encourage & focus on safety points e.g. tackling.
